Abstract. Transforming growth factor b1 (TGF-b1) is known as a growth inhibitor for most normal and transformed epithelial cells whilst basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) is a mitogenic agent. Here we show that TGF-b1 mRNA expression is inhibited under the action of TGF-b1 and induced under the action of bFGF in human breast carcinoma cells of MCF-7 line. mRNA expression of human pituitary tumor transforming gene was not changed under the action of these cytokines.

Key Words: transforming growth factor b1, basic fibroblast growth factor, mRNA, pituitary tumor transforming gene, human breast carcinoma cells MCF-7 line, growth inhibition.
