SELECTIVE PHOTOTOXICITY OF CHLORIN-E6 DERIVATIVES TOWARD LEUKEMIC CELLS

Abstract. The processes of accumulation and removal of some clorin-e6 derivatives — perspective sensitizers for photodynamic therapy — in normal and tumor cells of bone marrow have been studied. It has been shown that the cells in acute myelogenous leukemia accumulate significantly higher amounts of those photosentisizers (PS) and remove them much slower than normal mononuclear cells and, respectively, are stained with PS with higher contrast. The differences in PS distribution strongly determine the effectivity of photodynamic treatment of the cells.
